Versailles visit question - which day to go

I%26#39;m going to guess that Tuesday is a bad day to visit with all of the museums in Paris being closed. Would that be accurate?

If so, is every other day of the week about the same (crowd wise)?

thanks for your input.

We went a week ago Thursday. We arrived about 5 or 10 minutes before they opened and were about 10th in line. The place was empty for quite a while! We had the palace to ourselves practically...in the hall of mirrors we only saw 4 other people. By the time we left the palace to head outside, hoardes of people were arriving. It was so pleasant to go early!!!

An odd word of warning though...be careful on the steps. We were going down on some back stairwell and there are signs that the steps are slippery. Well, the sign is after the first flight, and yup, I went flying down that first flight.

Weekends are generally not a good time to go. Another day I would avoid is Tuesday, because some of the major museums in Paris are closed that day and as an alternative, many people go to Versailles.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are probably the best days to go (Versailles is closed Mondays).

Depends whether you want to see the fountains in action... Sat, Sunday, and Tuesday are your only choices I believe. (We went on a Sunday in early June and the crowds were big but not overwhelming).

This doesn%26#39;t actually answer your question, but if you are not going to be there when or before it opens, I would recommend a museum pass. We got there around noon on a Fri in June and there was a huge line for tickets but we walked right in with the pass. You can buy tickets online too, but I don%26#39;t know which entrance you use with those. You still have to wait in line for an audioguide if you want one, though.

We found it unpleasantly crowded when we were there. If it%26#39;s really that much better 1st thing in the morning, I would go then.

Tuesdays are very busy, but if you have a museum pass then you can generally walk right in. We didn%26#39;t and we had to wait over an hour to buy tickets/museum pass at Versailles. Although busy, Versailles is huge and the crowds were bearable-we went in mid-May. With many museums closed in Tuesday, we enjoyed our Tuesday at Versaille.
