ive booked flights into marseille for a week in August. I know the Marseille reviews are mixed and most forums are saying go to cassis instead, but i prefer a bit of nightlife, and it doesnt look like cassis has one. would you recommend Marseille for 4 city girls?

Depends what bit of a night life is: there are 2 %26quot;discotheques%26quot; in Cassis: the Big Ben which has recently reopened and has good reviews on internet (always has and is a destination for people from Marseille who want night life...) and the K6 (pronounced Cassis, of course) which from what I read is small but nice. Obviously plenty of restaurants, bars,...
As I have already posted quite a few times, Marseille is no better or worse than any large port city (largest on the Med) but there are not a zillion clubs there either. There is one on the Corniche which has local celebs (mostly soccer players from l%26#39;OM).
The draw back with Marseille is that during the day there is no beach or swimming that I would recommend so you would need to do day trips to Cassis if you want some of that. To visit from Marseille trains and buses from gare Saint Charles to Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Arles,...
