Interesting towns near Le Havre

We will be in Le Havre on Sept.5th, and was wondering if there are any picturesque towns near there. And, will it be easy to get to them by taxi? Or, does anyone know of a tour group that could show us around?

If you%26#39;re coming on the cruise ship, check with the cruise line -- many offer day trips from the ports.

Sounds like you are indeed coming from a cruise ship? See if they offer a trip to Honfleur. It is just 30 minutes away and it%26#39;s truly a lovely little coastal town.

Honfleur is the nearest pictureque town. The ships allways have excursion to Honfleur.

You can get a taxi, they queue up at the ship. The tarif is about 50€ plus waiting time if you ask it to wait.

Le Havre itself is an interesting visit (not picturesque but interesting.) It was destroyed by 80% in the war and was rebuilt by August Perret in concrete. the streets were planned keeping the main existing roads but with cars in mind. The apartements were very well laid out. The Tourist office organises tours.

There is also a house that escaped the destruction that can be visited. It%26#39;s called the ship owners house (Maison de l%26#39;armateur). It was built in an octoganal shape around the stair well.

Le Havre is listed in the Unesco heritage.

But I don%26#39;t see a ship on the schedule for 5 september.
