Marais hotel recommendations, please help!

Hello all,

Will be arriving to Paris with my teenage daughter in late June, heard consistently on here that the Marais is the place to be.

Please recommend a decent 3 or 4 star hotel in the Marais area for a 4 night stay before flying out of CDG. While daughter is busy with exams, I%26#39;ve spent a lot of time researching hotels, still as confused as when I started.

We%26#39;re travel savvy, but this will be our first Paris visit.

Thank you!

I loved staying at the Hotel Bourg-Tibourg on Rue Bourg Tibourg in the Marais. The area is fantastic--south and %26quot;official%26quot; Marais. Happening street/area and very central to all else. Easy walkable access to the islands and left bank as well. On the right bank to the north are Place de Vosges, rue Montorgruiel street market, Saint Eustache. .Great restaurants and bars on the street and around every corner--great gellato (at Amorini). Just beautiful. As far as the hotel itself, very funky and fun. Staff was fantastic--very helpful with directions and all my questions. Great bathtub! The only drawback on the room was its very dim lighting. If you are readers and require good bedside lighting, bring one of those %26quot;itty bitty booklights%26quot; or whatever they call them.

Another perfect %26quot;place to be%26quot; is in the 6th arr near rue Buci. That%26#39;s a perfect place for daughter as well. Recommend Hotel Artus.

I second the Bourg Tibourg. I%26#39;ve stayed there several times when our apartment is booked.

I enjoyed staying at the Hotel de la Bretonnerie. Note that it does not have AC, and the classic rooms can be cramped. I stayed in a classic double by myself, which was fine, but would not have wanted to share with anyone else. Their %26quot;charming rooms%26quot; are larger. The Villa Mazarin is really nice - more amenities and higher prices than the Bretonnerie.

About gelato, there are two gelato places in this area that I much prefer to Amorino: Pozzetto (rue du Roi de Sicile) and Gelati d%26#39;Alberto (rue des Lombards).

I was very happy at the Hotel Bastille Speria on the edge of the Marais. Very quiet A/C units, which is key to me. Very clean - nice staff - excellent location.

Another idea, especially if you%26#39;re male - is to get an apartment so you each have your own space. My parents only stay in the Marais and always rent.... I like hotels (and few apartments have AC), but would love to have a full sized refrigerator for a full sized bottle of Champagne instead of buying splits!

Marais is a very trendy place and a place to visit for sure but I am not sure it is a place to stay for any length of time. It is not THAT central from a transportation point of view and it has a bit of a ghetto atmosphere with all the diverse and not mixing so well communities. It also does not have a large choice of hotels. I prefer the Madeleine (where I live ) of course, or the Saint Germain area or some parts of the Latin Quarter or the 9th arromdissement, where hotels are plentiful with rue des Martyrs as a great market street (closed to traffic on Sundays).

Hi, we usually stay in the 5th %26amp; 6th sometimes the 4th (Ile St. Louis), but I thought the Marais would be a very nice district to stay at also. Not sure of your budget, but the Pavillon de La Reine is located in the 3rd district on Pl. des Vosges which is right next to the 4th district (Marais).

Thank you all for your help! Your input did help us make a decision.

We%26#39;ve booked with Le Jardin de Cluny in the Latin Quarter, we%26#39;re lucky to be able to do so less than 3 weeks before travel date. Many hotels in the area are booked (at least for some of the dates of our stay).

Le Jardin de Cluny seems to meet our %26#39;requirements%26#39; perfectly: overwhelmingly positive TA reviews, great location, close to lively areas yet tucked away on a quiet side street, AC, very clean and modern rooms, soundproof rooms, wi-fi in room plus pc in lobby for guests%26#39; use, etc.

Daughter and I are quite pleased!

Thank you all!

I know a hotel around that area called the Grand Hotel Doré. I happen to know the owner and they are one of the oldest hotel families in Paris! You should stay there if what you are looking for is a authentic, prestigious experience. The service is okay, but the atmosphere is really good: you feel like you%26#39;re in a 16th century mansion!

la_photographe : I totally disagree with your characterization of Le Marais. I%26#39;ve been going there for 10 years and have lived there four years before that. It is definitely not a ghetto and less touristic than many other central parts of Paris. I%26#39;d take the Place des Vosges over the Madeleine anyday. It is a fantastically comfortable neighborhood with a nice ambience, many parks, very good hotels and very safe. Every year it just gets better and better. Here are some good hotels:
