Swimming/ canoeing

Is there lakeside swimming nearby %26amp; other water sports? Where is the best place to hire canoes?

Hi Julia,

You have posted this on the Angouleme forum, so I assume you are looking for water sports along the Charente River, but you need to clarify a bit.

Please let the forum know where you plan to stay so those who know the area can suggest ideas. Cheers

Hi

Yes we are staying at Aigre, about 30 km n of Angouleme. So if you have any ideas about water sports that would be very helpful

Thanks

I%26#39;ve only ever driven through Aigre on the way back from Angouleme so don%26#39;t know the area that well, but found this which pretty much covers all your questions and has maps with details of watersport swimming on the Charente

Hi

There is a huge lake alongside the RN10 just outside Angouleme. It has virtually all watersports available. There is also a beach, childrens%26#39; playground and restaurant. There is also a good walk all the way around the lake (probably 1-2 hours depending on pace). Lots of free parking but will get busy July and August.

Nearby there is the Nautilus Centre. A water park with several indoor/outdoor pools and an indoor ice rink and restaurant.

Nearer at hand there is a small leisure lake just south of Villefagnan (north of Aigre) with beach, small playground, toilets and cafe (blue flag rating 2008). Canoeing is avaible at thr Rejellant near Ruffec (on the Charente river), with restaurant and picnic area.

We have a gite business a few miles north of Aigre.

Have a great holiday.
