Getting to Hondarribia from Biarritz

Hi All, Can anyone advise how I might get from Biarritz Airport to Hondarribia - is there a bus / train / or series thereof that I can investigate? I should land about 1500 on a Weds or Thurs. Any idea roughly how long it takes and how much it might cost?

Thanks v much

I can help you part of the way.

You will need to head from the airport to Biarritz railway station.

From there you will need to take a train from Biarritz to Hendaye or Irun as the first step.

Hendaye is on the French side of the border, Irun on the Spanish side but few of the trains go all the way to Irun. Hondarribia is about 4 miles from either Irun or Hendaye.

Trains from Biarritz on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons leave at 1625, 1718 (TGV) and 1741. It%26#39;s €4.90 on the local trains, which take about half an hour to reach Hendaye or €6.60 on the TGV which is a bit faster. There are no trains across to Irun until much later but there is a little tram/train from Hendaye to Irun every half hour. From Irun you should be able to get a taxi or a local bus but that bit I cannot help you with. I don%26#39;t know if French taxis at Hendaye station are allowed to run across the border. I do know that the buses operated by the local French bus company don%26#39;t cross the border but I can%26#39;t remember if the Spanish ones do. I don%26#39;t recall seeing any when last thre but it was 715 in the morning!

By the way, did you know than San Sebastian airport is only two miles from Hondarribia?

Hope that helps a bit.

Update: Trains from Biarritz run to Hendaye or Irun. If you get to Hendaye there%26#39;s a tram every half hour to Irun, or if you get a cab (from rank outside station) to the port (it%26#39;s about half an hour%26#39;s walk if not) you can get a river taxi (1.60 euros) over to Hondarribia and they run roughly every half an hour until early evening.
