best stop along the Gorges du Verdon for an activity break

Hi,

I am travelling from a B%26amp;B I booked for one night near St Tropez (Plan de la Tour) to a gite in Saint Jean de Crieulon (near Uzes/Nimes) where we will be staying for a week. (september time)

On the way to the gite I would like to visit the Gorges du Verdon. Having checked it on google maps it looks this will add 2 hours driving time to the journey which is ok, as we have until late afternoon to arrive at the gite. My question is, where are we best to stop to hire a pedal boat / kayak or something for a couple of hours to explore either the gorge or one of the lakes?

Thanks

G

Castellane %26amp; La-Palud-sur-Verdon both offer great outdoor activities, but if you don%26#39;t have too much time and just want to rent a pedal boat or kayak, the Sainte-Croix Lake is a good option :

The road around the gorge is at (or near) the top: there is nowhere near the river to hire a boat.

This part of my blog may give you some ideas about the road. Well worth seeing but for the most part the road is very high up. Near Lake St Croix you can see kayakers in the waters of the gorge. Our trip was from Provence to the coast, so the reverse of yours, which means Lac St Croix will come before you travel the gorge.

There are warnings all along the gorges not to venture down. People had been drowned by quickly rising water not lone before we were there.
