Thinking about the villa victoria for a week in september but a friend says that the cost of eats and drinks around Nice are trop cher. Can anyone suggest good value but decent eating and drinking places within walking distance. Heres hoping! You know what happens... You%26#39;re there a week and find somewhere good on the last night.

It depends on your budget and tastes -what are they?
I%26#39;d say it was pretty easy to eat cheaply in Nice - it could be even cheaper if you rented an apartment

Apartment sounds a good idea. Any areas you would recommend?

Anywhere in the centre really -it depends what you like. Nice is very safe -just take usual precautions you would take at home
The old town is buzzy , atmospheric and noisy but its an experience - loads of restaurants some completely ott touristy , bars and late clubs, fruit/veg/flower and fish market -good tram access and bus station
carre d%26#39;or and pedestrian streets- loads of restaurants some are touristy , bars and late clubs, can be noisy - some of the main shopping streets including upmarket shops
tram access from massena
The port to riquier -restaurants from cheap and cheerful to extravagant , marina with boats etc, Towards Acropolis tram station there is a big shopping centre with carrefour etc
tram access from place garibaldi
Musiciens has a number of cafes and restaurants but is generally very quiet and can be a bit %26#39;dead%26#39; feeling -its on the whole very residential - no direct tram access bu close to main train station
Cimiez is really too far out for a holiday IMO - no tram access
either side of Jean medecin = main shopping street - tram runs the whole length- easy access to bus station or train station by tram . lots of ethnic restaurants and budget restaurants in this area Nice Etoile shopping centre
Liberation/maluassena - has its own non-touristy fruit/veg/flower and fish market, the train des pignes station , arlequin icecream shop, good Tram access lots of good value cafes and restos, just about any kind of ethnic foodshops- italian, portuguese, Vietnamese, asian supermarket, russian, kosher and halal supermarkets
plus open air swimming pool russian cathedral ,main train station are by the edges
promenade des anglais- sea views access to beach , some restaurants , posh hotels and clubs , but also 6 lanes of traffic -very long street so the exact location needs to be checked on a map as its easy to be on the prom but miles from the centre [eg carras / magnan areas]
