A lot of Irish people seem to be flying into Lorient, Brittany. Must be some really good deals.
Nice is 1,300 km away. You need to get from the airport to Lorient, train to Paris, train to Nice, then to your accommodation.
Let%26#39;s say this is not the most convenient or time efficient route.
If you want the med look for flights to somewhere near your desired destination, or look for somewhere much nearer Lorient.

There are a few longer journeys in France, but not many. From Lorient think in terms of Brttany and possibly the Western Loire. For Nice, look for flights to south eastern France. If you really like long rail journeys, you can do it in between 10-12 hours during the day with a change of stations in Paris, or overnight with changes elsewhere.
