Notre Dame de Paris, the Miserables, Phantom of the Opera etc. are musicals, not plays. A play doesn%26#39;t have music and songs, only dialogue.

Musicals are comedies musicales in French, if they are contemporary and Operettes if they are older (19th century to the 1950s), to distinguish them from Operas.

Mind you young people also use the term %26quot;musical%26quot;..

The summer is not a great season in Paris for plays or musicals as most of the customers are natives, who are away on holidays in the summer. Also many theaters do their maintenance at that time.

Another thing is that Paris has never been known for big scale musicals, unlike London where they always have quite a few going on at any given time.

There are some small scale musicals in Paris this summer but one would have to be fluent in French to enjoy them. I have a site below. click on each for detailed info BUT IT IS ALL IN FRENCH
