I am considering to take the overnight train from Nice to Paris on 21st July. There is a train that departs Nice at 20:01 arr Paris at 07:46.
The fares on www.voyages-sncf.com give 166 USD for 2nd class and around 250 USD for first class. Is this for seats or sleeper class?
If this is for seats, does this train provide sleeper class?
Thanks

One of my favourite websites should answer any questions you have on train journeys: www.seat61.com
It is a superb site, and will give you the various options available on sleeper trains.

Those are very high prices for this far in advance. Sounds as if you%26#39;ve been bounced into RailEurope by choosing an English language option or a US delivery option.
I%26#39;ve just been quoted for your date €47 second class, with the choice (which you make yourself online) of either a reclining seat or a couchette (you also choose the height of your couchette).
Or €77 first class, couchette only.
These prices are %26#39;a saisir%26#39; - they won%26#39;t be around long. And you can buy them, provided you do it in French and can print your tickets or collect in France.
To find out what a couchette is, see Seat 61 as suggested in previous post.

Thanks. Pardon my lack of understanding of French.
We are 2 adults and 2 five year olds and would like the couchette (4 or 6 in a cabin). So on the site, I fill in the ages. There is an option to fill in carte et abonnement, etc. I leave this at default.
The overnight direct train (departing Nice at 20:01) shows a price of 166 USD for the four of us. There is an choice for Choisir votre placement which shows placement couche and siege inclinable.
If I understand correct, it is the placement couche that is the sleeper (couche)?
On the next page, it shows the seat as %26quot;Voiture 7 - Place 42 Inférieur %26quot; - does this mean a couche %26quot;sleeper%26quot; reservation?
Is it the same cost for couche and reclining chair?
Thanks

Same price for seats and couchettes (couche) in 2nd.
%26#39;Inferieure%26#39; means at the bottom - for a booking for one person, you get a selectable window in which you can choose the bottom, middle or top %26#39;bunk%26#39;. I haven%26#39;t tried it for more people.
I still don%26#39;t undertand how you are getting a USD rather than a Euro price out of voyages-SNCF!

perilizia - I think sourav is clicking on USA as place to deliver/pick up the tickets which bumps the site over to raileurope and includes surcharges including a hefty insurance premium per person
sourav -if you select Great Britain/grande Bretagne you don%26#39;t get the extra charges added an the price stays in euros
Just then pick the tickets up in the station in Nice - but you definitely need to have the credit card with you that made the booking

And make sure you allow plenty of time to pick up the tickets at Nice Ville Station -it is the nearest place to hell on earth: absolutely packed, and grossly understaffed. The staff who are on duty seem to take a perverse delight in shutting counters just when the queue gets to epic proportions, and English is not universally spoken (not a remark to be taken as us expecting everyone to speak English, but I would expect the staff on the information desk to at least have a smattering, in the same way that I would expect staff on a British station info desk to speak at least some French and German).
The same advice goes to anyone planning a train trip - it is no good arriving 5 minutes before your train departs if you haven%26#39;t already got your tickets. A good tip we picked up on here (thank you, kind someone) was to get them in advance - the afternoons tend to be quieter.
