Sanremo to Nice

We would like to take a train from San Remo, Italy to Nice, France but are unsure of the names of the train stations in both cities.

Is it possible to take a direct train between the two cities or do we need to make connections with other trains?

We are having difficulty finding the train schedules.

Has anyone done this before, and if so what it the most direct and best way?

Thank you in advance.

The station names are %26quot;San Remo%26quot; and %26quot;Nice Ville%26quot;.

There are a few, more expensive through trains each day but mostly you would catch an Italian local train from San Remo to Ventimiglia, and a French local train from there to Nice.

You can get train times from www.trenitalia.com, but note there is a fault which means that for local trains, the fare shown is only the fare to the border. It is an extra €6 to get to Nice.

As these are local trains, there is no point trying to book in advance. There are no seat reservations, and tickets cannot sell out. Similar to the MBTA.

To add to what has been said, train times are here: www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html

Th train station in San Remo is now on the east side of the city, the opposite side to the majority of local hotels. From the west side of the city it is now usually quicker and cheaper to get a bus (every 15 minutes) to Ventimiglia for the half-hourly trains to Nice, than to get a cross-town bus or a taxi to the new station.

This option is not however suitable for those with lots of luggage or without the confidence to get off at the correct bus stop in Ventimiglia - if this applies you should get a taxi to San Remo station, allowing plenty of time as the train tracks are now deep inside the hillside in a tunnel.
