Hotel Grand Prieure

Has anyone heard of this hotel? We booked it on Paris35 because it was such a good deal. However, I can%26#39;t find any reviews on it. It%26#39;s located on rue prieuré 75011 Paris. Apparently, it%26#39;s in the 11th district.

Although I haven%26#39;t stayed in your partuicular hotel I have stayed in Hotel du Plessis on the same street.

The area is fantastic - close to both Republique and Oberkampf metro stations, and loads of bus routes too. You are very close to the Marais area which is very popular with tourists, also the canal St Martin. There are loads of restaurants in the area too. There are some hotel reviews here:-

I think it%26#39;s a good choice.

Thank you kebabs! I couldn%26#39;t find a review anywhere, I feel much better about our decision now... only 27 days until we depart! Can you recommend any good restaurants in the area?

|||

I hope some of the %26#39;locals%26#39; come in here as I%26#39;m terrible with restaurant names.

However, Place de la Republique has plenty of choice; I remember a Tex Mex called Indiana Cafe,which we enjoyed, and there%26#39;s Chez Jenny (http://www.chez-jenny.com/en/index.html). Now I personally didn%26#39;t think the latter was worth the money, and we didn%26#39;t have very good service. BUT maybe we were just unlucky: it%26#39;s been there a long time so must be doing something right!

There is a search facility on this forum - just above the title of your post on this page. If you type in %26#39;Oberkampf restaurants%26#39; or %26#39;Republique restaurants%26#39; you should get some info.

I hope you have a wonderful trip.

I can%26#39;t tell you anything specific about the hotel except that is is on rue du Grand Prieuré which might be useful information in case you should ever need to take a taxi home at night.

It%26#39;s in a splendid location IMO , rght on the edge of the very trendy and up-and-coming Oberkampf/Republique area. Here%26#39;s a list of cafés and restaurants more or less in order starting with the closest to your hotel:

Astier, rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud (Well regarded local bistro. Great cheese board and good wines. Good value lunch menu.)

l%26#39;Autre Café, rue J.-P. T. (I like this café a lot)

Mémère au Piano, rue J.-P. T. ( Haven%26#39;t tried it but the locals speak highly of it. Looks warm and inviting. Good value French %26quot;cuisine grand%26#39;mère%26quot; menu. Dinner only IIRC.)

Auberge Pyrénées-Cévennes, rue de la Folie Méricourt (A warm and friendly traditional bistro. Excelllent food. Not quite as good value as it once was.)

Plein Soleil, av. Parmentier at av. de la République (Another good café. This one has a terrace. L%26#39;Autre C. does not.)

Le Villaret, rue Ternaux (This is a seriously good place for serious food. Great food. Terrific value. Excellent wines. So-so décor but warm if a bit noisy ambience.)

l/Estaminet, rue Oberkampf (The cheapest of the lot. Good food. Fun but crowded. Not a place to linger.)

Café Charbon, rue Oberkampf (The %26quot;signature%26quot; café of the area. Not to be missed.)

There are plenty more places if these don%26#39;t do it for you. Lots of ethnic eateries. There%26#39;s a terrific north African bakery on rue St. Maur, La Bague de Kenza, also not to be missed. A top class boulangerie, Au Levain du Marais, on av. Parmentier up the hill towards rue du Faubourg du Temple.

Very good twice weekly market on bv. Richard Lenoir.

The delightful Canal St. Martin to explore with more good cafés and eateries.

And then there%26#39;s all the places in the 3rd arrondissement, just a few minutes walk away...

Check out this article but don%26#39;t take the author%26#39;s recommendation to eat at La Caravane so I%26#39;m told: washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20…

l/Estaminet = l%26#39;Estaminet

Thanks Irish... you are so informative! 26 days to go! Luckily February is a short month!

Hey there, did you ever end up staying at this hotel? I am looking for a place in Paris and saw your posting. There is still not much information available, so I was wondering if you could share your thoughts. Thanks!

|||

Hello... I did stay at the hotel, it was ok... nothing fancy! The price was right and it was fairly close to the metro! It was over 2 years ago, so I don%26#39;t recall all the details... but I do recall the people that worked at the hotel being very friendly... Enjoy your trip! I hope to make it back to Paris someday, it was amazing!

I forgot to mention, you must try this restaurant if you stay at the hotel!

Astier,

44 rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud 75011 Paris

Téléphone : 01 43 57 16 35

Email : restaurant.astier@wanadoo.fr

It was one of my favorite meals while in Paris! It was a fixed price menu (29 Euro - they add a couple more Euro if you go with a speciality)... 4 courses (salad/appetizer, main dish, cheese and dessert)! The server recommended an excellent wine to go with our meals... we managed to spend a couple hours there, even though we had to be up at 4am to catch our flight out of Orly at 7:00am to Rome!

Thank you so much!
