We rented an apartment near Place Rosetti in the heart of Nice Old Town. It was nice and central, but VERY noisy. We stayed in Rue du Pont Vieux and the noises from the restaurant kitchens, raised voices in the square, mopeds revving, etc went on throughout the night, meaning that we had to sleep with all the doors and windows shut (very hot!). We had a 7 month old baby with us and she really couldn%26#39;t sleep, day or night.
Fine for a young person/couple who plan to stay out til the wee small hours; otherwise think carefully first. We stayed nearer the outer edge of the old town 7 years ago and it was much quieter.

Yes, the old town is pretty noisy due to the narrow streets and tall building plus the early start for the market and the late [wee small hours] finish of the clubs
I always try and tell folk that with the atmosphere and history and quaintness you also get noise
