Hi, I’m coming into Geneva on 7/16 and taking a train to Paris. I’ll then take another train from Paris to Evian on 7/19. Based on the RailEurope schedules, it appears there are plenty of trains, which should allow a lot of flexibility.
My question is should I, or do I have to, pre purchase tickets for a set departure time, or can I wait and buy tickets for my train trips at the station? I’d especially like to wait and buy on day of on 7/16 as I’ll be coming in by plane from the US and you never know if the flight will be late, on time, and how long it will take to get through passport control, etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice you have…

Don%26#39;t buy from RailEurope, as it charges a substantial fee on top of the actual ticket prices. Indeed, do not entirely trust its timetable information, as it is not always right.
You can get train times and actual costs, and make bookings, at www.tgv-europe.com/en but say you are from Great Britain. If you say you are from USA, you get another site that has much higher prices.
The earlier you buy the tickets, the cheaper the price. However, you would probably be OK buying just before travel, but there is always a possibility that the next train will be sold out and you have to wait for the one after.

I%26#39;ve been wondering the same thing about a Thalys ticket from Brussels back to Paris, as the markup on Raileurope is so high. I thought I might wait until I arrive next week in Paris to buy for my return on the 15th. Is that a good idea?

The Thalys ticket will be cheaper if purchased in advance: www.thalys.com
