Alert -Stolen wallet on Metro

Just returned yesterday from a wonderful week in Paris but one incident scarred what was otherwise a perfect trip. Our friend%26#39;s wallet was stolen from her zipped up handbag just as we entered a very busy packed train. She was obviously targeted as they (group of three adolescents)jostled her away from the rest of us, then jumped of the train just as the train doors were closing.Very professionally executed. And my friend had constantly been on the alert for this very thing happening! An extremely helpful and kind young lady helped us to report the matter to the driver, the station master and also to the police. Thankfully not much money in the wallet, but the inconvenience of losing credit cards and diver%26#39;s licence etc. It just shows no matter how prepared you can be, it can still happen.

On another note, the gold ring scam was tried on us - we laughed, but watched it being tried over and over again on the unsuspecting. We couldn%26#39;t get over the amount of %26quot;these people%26quot; around - surely the police can move them on.

Bummer about your friends wallet. This is one reason I never carry more then one days cash in my wallet and NO credit cards.. ( I keep it in my money belt,,but mostly leave it in hotel room safe) . At least friend did not lose Passport that would have been much worse.

I too wish the problem could be addressed more proactively.. but am not sure how police could do this fairly.

It%26#39;s just awful that your friend%26#39;s wallet was stolen.

As you noted, the theft was very well executed, and your friend would have been better prepared had she not been carrying a wallet at all and had her cash, cards, etc., in the inside zipper pocket of that bag.

It%26#39;s also a good idea to leave anything you don%26#39;t need while out and about (extra cards, drivers license, etc.) in the room or hotel safe.

Probably a lot of people, being pushed hard, even very rudely, and then them jumping out of the metro as the doors close...Pretty typical.

The walking version is: hands out of nowhere immobilise the victim, arms, legs, and before being able to utter a cry, the purse is unzipped in front of the victim%26#39;s very own eyes, then let go and everyone has disappeared into the crowd...probably the whole thing lasting less than 2 seconds.
