16th arrondissement

My husband, 8 year old son and I are planning our first trip to Paris next April. We are researching apartments at the moment. Is the 16th arr safe and family friendly? Is it too far away from everything touristy? Any recommendations for other areas? Can anyone tell me where the %26#39;seedy, red light%26#39; type districts are so we can try to avoid them? Thanks for any advice you can give us.

Paris as a whole is very safe.

The 16th is very quiet - upscale and residential, for the most part.

Nothing is far away from anywhere in Paris, with the Metro and buses -- even walking won%26#39;t take too long.

Don%26#39;t worry about seedy and red light -- if you stay to the main areas, you%26#39;ll have no issues at all.

It%26#39;s definitely relatively safe and as mentioned very residential. Location is closest to the Eiffel Tower, Palais de Chaillot mainly.

We used the metro to get to other areas when we stayed in the 16th, but decided we preferred staying in the 4th, 5th, or 6th districts better.

We stayed in an apartment in the Passy neighborhood when we brought our kids in 2006. It is a very nice neighborhood. We had a Monoprix around the corner and bakeries and restaurants closeby. The Passy metro was nearby also. We really liked the 16th and would stay there again.

Parts of the 16th towards Auteuil or the Bois de Boulogne would be quite far from the main tourist areas and very residential but closer to the Trocadero or the Etoile would be central. But I think the 6th or 7th would be more central and very safe, as indeed is all of central Paris. The 7th is quieter and less vibrant than the 6th but I know from posts here that it%26#39;s very popular. We use a company called www.alacarteparis.com but stay in the Marais (4th) which is my favourite.
