After the SNCF reservation struggle, what next?

After much ado, I finally scheduled, using my CC, the three separate sections of of our train travel from Paris to Nice ,to Arles and return this Septembre. I recommend the description in www.seat61.com highly before attempting a similar activity. If I%26#39;d only known....

Anyhow, I tried for minimum complications by ordering nothing but the ticket reservations, which afford considerable savings over Rail-Europe at least when you reserve months in advance.

My Qs are (1) What is the minimum time one has to claim the tickets at Gare de Lyon with respect to departure time? 24 hours?

(2) I know that I still need to reserve the seats. How much time does one have with respect to departure time with respect to this action.

Also just now thinking about it, I probably should do this for all three segments before I leave and physically take possession of the tickets thus eliminating any problems that might occur if I had my CC compromised because of theft or fraud.

Appreciate any insights into this. Merci

You may pickup your tickets any time before departure at any SNCF ticket window or boutique. You will need:

1. The reservation number

2. To present for inspection by the agent, the credit card used in the on line transaction.

%26lt;%26lt;(2) I know that I still need to reserve the seats.%26gt;%26gt;

This should be done when you purchase the tickets as far as I know. Are you sure you purchased tickets or did you just reserve seats?

There is no minimum time to pick up the tickets except don%26#39;t wait until 30 minutes before departure in case there%26#39;s a long line at the ticket window. Just do it at your convenience. Since you are picking up the tickets (not printing yourself) you will need to validate them as you are boarding your train (stick the one for that trip into a yellow waist high machine - they are all overcthe stations and platforms - until it makes a click sound). You will see others doing this, just do as they do.

Since you bought your tickets through the SNCC site you should already have seats unless it is the kind of local train that%26#39;s open seating. Is this on a TGV, or a regiobal train? Look on your confirmation for the voiture (car) and place (seat). If not there post back here and people will try to help you figure this out.

Merci for the quick response...No my CC has been debited 3X for a total approaching $250. I have single page printouts of %26quot;Reference du dossier%26quot;, Nom asscocie along with the start and stop destinations and times. Unfortunately, I discovered, later on the last printout had additional info on %26quot;Transaction N%26quot;, amount in euros, id commercant, transaction date, authorization #, certificate of tranaction alphanumeric sequence, and finally debite sur votre carte bancarire N which is masked sequence of the CC # with some of the numeric digits revealed.

By the time I started printing this out I wasn%26#39;t paying full attention and I assumed that the %26quot;Reference du dossier%26quot; and the physical CC would be sufficient.

I agree that it%26#39;s probably best to stop by any train station or SNCF boutique and pick up your tickets ahead of time.

If you do wait until day of departure, allow plenty of time, as you will have to go to an attended ticket window to collect your tickets, and there could be quite a wait. Even a few people in line can take longer than you would presume.

Also, Gare de Lyon is rather large, with several levels, and track numbers for departing trains tend not to be posted until the last second. You will need time to orient yourself so that when your track is posted you can head directly to it.

I want to thank you folks that responded as know I have an idea that things are not as mixed up as I had first envisioned when I wrote the comment. When I looked at the printouts of the transactions on the right hand size below my last name are the seat assignments and they appear on all 3 legs of the trip.

But this brings another question and that is I when I purchased the tickets did not see and reservation charge that was seperate. Any addtional charges liek insurance I unchecked. Since these were TGV tickets it seems reasonable that since you can%26#39;t go with a ticket along that they lump the charges for the ticket and the seat reservation into one sum.

Well again merci...

When you book directly with SNCF there is no separate charge to actually get a seat, LOL. The Eurail %26quot;extra%26quot; charges are as though Hertz said %26quot;if you want tires for that rental car it will be an extra $75.%26quot; Just one more reason to book your own (and congratulations on catching the insurance thing - not a large amount, but annoying if you real don%26#39;t want/need it).

Now, relax and enjoy your trip (and just think how much easier the next one will be!)

The TGV and Thalys trains include a mandatory seat reservation in their pricing, so you have bought both a ticket and a seat when you paid online. Is the Nice=%26gt;Arles one of those lines?..
