La Flotte, Saint Martin or elsewhere?

I am looking for some expert Ile de Re advice. We have never visited the island and are planning a 3 night trip in early August. The accommodations that are available (limited at this point) are spread out and I have no idea which to choose? Do we need a pool, I think so but not sure? We are a 30-something couple taking a break from the kids, so want some relaxation, yet also want some nightlife. I am able to book La Galiote or Le Richelieu in La Flotte. Or the gust house La Balancine or Hotel de Toiras in Saint Martin. Or there are a few others with room out in Saint Marie which look nice with pools and open space, but maybe seem to far from going out to eat and drink? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi there,

St Martin is better than La Flotte beachwise, they are both on the north side of the island (the best beaches are on the south). Both towns have lots to offer but I think for a couple, (on a rest from the kids!) St Martin is more suitable - more night life and more choice of restaurants and much more romantic. If you hire bikes then staying outside St Martin opens up more possibilities, and also good for visiting the best beaches like le Bois Plage .

If you are driving don%26#39;t foreget there is a toll on the bridge (and if you take a taxi from the airport they will charge for this too)
